Thomas J. Albright and William A. Albright, gun makers, found in Kennedy's 1860 St.
Louis City Directory. They were sons of Thomas John Albright who was gunsmith in
St. Louis. By 1849 he was joined by his both sons as Thomas J. Albright & Sons.
They advised as: "T. J. Albright & Son. Have removed to No. 40, Main Street. Dealers in Shot Guns, Rifles, Pistols, Fisching Tackle and Gun Material OF EVERY DESCRIPTON. The best stock in St. Louis. Allen's new patent repeater, 3 to 8 inch, and the best out at Wholesale or Retail. Outfits for Pike's Peak Gold Fields, complete " At that time they advised in the Missouri Republican: "T. J. Albright & Sons The subscriber has now on hand the largest and most complete assortment of firearms ever offered in St. Louis, comprising every article suitable for California emigrants and others, some of entirely new patterns with superior home-made locks and warrented to shoot accurately at prices to defy all competition. also I would likewise state, that in a few weeks more, I shall have completed my manufactory when I can supply orders at a distance at the shortest notice both wholesale and retail. A few good hands wanted. T. J. Albright, 21 Chestnut Street St. Louis" During the Civil War, Albright supplied military goods. in 1861 Union companies were being organized to combat the very active secessionist movement in St. Louis. T.J. Albright & Sons continued throught 1877. Upon the death of Horace Dimick in 1873 William Albright, joined with William Rudolph bought out the Dimick shop. It seems that this association existed only for a short period of one or two years. Thomas John Albright died February 9, 1890. William Albright continued as salesman for Chapin Arms Company and later for E.C. Meacham Arms Company until 1896. |
